Catch an Exciting Spica Occultation on July 13th
The forecast looks like it might be workable, but this event will be happening quite low on the western horizon for us.
Look for the dark leading limb of the Moon, most likely visible via earthshine at low power through a telescope and possibly in binoculars, to run over the bright star Spica in Virgo late Saturday night. You'll need a low western horizon, as the event will happen for us when the duo is just slightly less than 6° above the horizon. We won't get to see the re-emergence event.
So while the weather may or may not play a role in whether or not we're able to see this, it's an exciting prospect that may we worth delaying your bedtime for.
