Greetings Fellow Skygazers,
We are planning a one-last observing session for 2024 to held this evening at Centennial Field, Norwell, MA, beginning between 5:00 and 5:30pm. The sky forecast is actually quite decent, the outside temperature will be a balmy 25°f to start and will drop to around 20°f around quitting time. Dress for the occasion and come on out to see some cool stuff! I've got a few half-hearted objectives in mind, but will gladly take requests from interested parties.
One objective that I hope to start out with is a live, in the eyepiece example of something that Steve LaFlamme just shared with us in an image this morning - Juipter's Galilean moon Io near the limb of the planet and dragging its shadow behind. I'm hoping to be set up close to 5pm and be able to gaze at this spectacle until the moon pulls clear of the planet around 5:30pm. Galilean moons near the limb of Jupiter are a special sight in the eyepiece. C'mon out and see it for yourself!
Hope to see you there!
Mike M.
