Greetings Fellow Smoke Endurers,
Yesterday I posited that active region #3376 on the Sun might be demonstrating an energy output capable of producing a solar eruption. This was based on an observation made through a Meade Coronado Personal Solar Telescope, which is pretty much the most basic level of Hydrogen Alpha observing equipment on the market today. Basic, but still quite capable.
One hour after my observation, the region released a coronal mass ejection (CME) that is predicted to slap Earth's magnetosphere some time in the next few days;
Of course between the wildfire smoke and just general cloudiness we probably won't be able to see a thing, but it's fun to know that if you look at the Sun often enough you can start to pick up on the clues that preclude these types of events.
Breathe Deep...oh wait a minute...don't do that!
Mike M.
