[Friends_of_SSASTROS] Your observing plan for TOMORROW!

Greetings Fellow Astronomy Enthusiasts,
It's been a tough stretch for those that like to observe but tomorrow shows some promise, so I suggest the following to get your January astro fix;

The sky is forecast to be clear by mid-day, so do take the opportunity to have a look at very active Sun. In fact, it'll easier than you think. There are currently many sunspots and a couple large are enough to be seen at zero magnification. So, if you have a welder's shade or eclipse glasses handy, don them and look up. There you have, super-simple solar observing!

Late tomorrow afternoon, after you've put your scope out to cool, find a low western horizon site and enjoy the naked-eye splendor of Jupiter, Saturn and Venus forming a long line in the southwestern sky. In fact, why not get there a little earlier and take in a nice sunset with your bestie too? Aww, how romantic!

After some nourishment and fortification, head out and pick off some of the observing objectives for the month. Tip; the seeing is forecast to be mush, so leave Iota Trianguli for another time. Go for Mirach's Ghost, scan the Hyades with binos, and for a challenge object track down M76, the Little Dumbell Nebula.
Finally, roll your butt out of bed by 5:30am on Thursday morning to catch a glimpse of Comet Edgar. Binos will do it. Cast a line from Arcturus to Vega, then use the keystone of Hercules to get there. The 8% waning crescent Moon should have minimal impact on the scene.

Let's get out there and see some stuff!
Keep Looking Up!
Mike M.
