Ode to a Double Star

 

‘Twas theeve of Thanksgiving

And theskies they were clear

While mostwere hustling and bustling

Family I wasalready near

 

My scope atthe ready

Target listin hand

Jupiter wasseen so steady

Nice andhigh above the land

 

Many views verysatisfying

A splendidevening indeed

But nonewould be so gratifying 

As the starGamma And

 

200, 400,700 times

The powerswe explored

But thatpesky “C” component

Would not beimplored

 

Somehow Iknew it wouldn’t

By I triedanyway

Push thepedal to the metal

That’s whatI always say

 

Slow motioncontrols

Never movedso fast

Twisting, turningevery second

I knew itcouldn’t last

 

The 6” glasscan’t do it

Theoreticallythey say

But I kepttrying and trying

Keeping mydoubts at bay

 

Nothingventured, nothing gained

It’s asaying of old

To live by itis to live

Glory goesto the bold

 

Alas I hadto accept

That thelaws of physics I can’t break

But just theeffort of trying

Was nothingless than great!
