I saw the Moon as a waning gibbous close to Mars high in the sky last night
from Lakeville, MA leaving a music rehearsal at about 1030pm, but the Moon
had not yet developed its ring/halo which Mike released in his email.
Jupiter also blazed brightly around 50 degrees west of the Moon/Mars combo
in the clear (at the time) sky. I had no optical aid with me then. The
lunar halo and ring are likely the first signs of the approaching rain and
wind leftovers of Hurricane Nicole, due to reach eastern Mass tonight into
tomorrow.
