Dear SSAstros and Friends:
We are so lucky to have Mike McCabe and his seemingly endless enthusiasm for bringing wonderful astro-opportunities to our club!
Many of you may realize that with his leadership, the club is offering a screening of Luminous, a true tale of scientific prediction, suspense, and discovery.
We hope you will join us in person* at the Scituate Library this coming Wednesday, March 3, at 6:00 PM or by Zoom**.
The event kicks off with a live-feed introduction by the film’s director and a post-film Q&A session. We’ll top it all off with a mini-star party on the library grounds. We hope you will join us!
*Please RSVP via email for in-person attendance so we can plan accordingly.
**If you plan to watch virtually, please note that you will need to pre-register.
All details are below.
Thank you, Mike! I, for one, am very excited about this event!
Clear skies to all,
Carolyn DeCristofano,
President, South Shore Astronomical Society

Subject: Movie Night Invitation Re-Issue
Hello Everyone,
This is a re-issue of the recent invitation sent to the club membership to join together on Wednesday, March 2nd for a sneak-peek screening of the yet-to-be-released movie Luminous. Everyone should have gotten it in an email sent out on the 18th of February, but just in case it landed in Spam or you somehow lost it, all the information necessary to participate is immediately below this paragraph. There is one change, however. Due to the very limited RSVP's received for the in-person portion of the event, we don't have enough information to base any purchases on. I suspect that this is one of those cases where more people, possibly many more, will be there than the response indicates, so if you do plan to attend in-person and would like some soda and popcorn with your movie please feel free to bring some for yourself.
Greetings SSASTROS and ASSNE Members,
It brings us great joy to announce our intentions to host our first joint club event between the South Shore Astronomical Society and the Astronomical Society of Southern New England.
On Wednesday, March 2nd, 2022 the South Shore Astronomical Society will be hosting a screening of the yet-to-be-released movie Luminous, and the members of the Astronomical Society of Southern New England are cordially invited as our honored guests.
This event will be held both in-person and virtually. The location of the in-person portion of the event will be at the Scituate Town Library, 85 Branch Street, Scituate, MA 02066. The start time of the event will be 6pm. The movie will be shown in the large meeting room which is located on the lower level and has enough capacity to safely seat attendees from both groups combined.
With that said, it is understood that some people may not be comfortable with an in-person setting as of yet, while others may have an impractically long travel time to the screening location. For these reasons we have chosen to use a hybrid modality for this event. For those intending to attend virtually, here's what you need to know;
There will be a pre-screening introduction and post-screening Q&A with the movie makers, which will be hosted on Zoom. You will find the Zoom link immediately below this paragraph. The link should take you straight in, but just in case, the Meeting ID and Passcode are also included below the link:
Intro and Q&A Zoom link: <https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81985248195?pwd=RXo2cUF5ODZlMm96NXFnZTc0RU9sdz09> Join our Cloud HD Video Meeting
Meeting ID: 819 8524 8195
Passcode: 198452
To watch the movie, you will need to register with your name and email address at the Show&Tell platform where the movie is streamed from. It is recommended that you do this as soon as possible on the device that you plan to watch the movie on. Upon registering you will be issued a virtual 'ticket' to watch the movie, and here's the best part - you'll not only be able to watch the movie on the screening night, but for up to three days after that as well. The Show&Tell link is immediately below this paragraph. After you register you may want to watch the trailer. I think you'll find the plot interesting.
Link to watch the movie: <https://watch.showandtell.film/watch/luminous-south-shore-astronomical-society> Show&Tell
On movie night, it is recommended that you have two windows open in your browser; one with Zoom meeting open and one with the Show&Tell platform open. In this way you can simply attend the Zoom intro, then mute Zoom and toggle over to Show&Tell and watch the movie, then toggle back to Zoom for the Q&A. If for some reason you can't make it on movie night, you can never mind the Zoom and just use Show&Tell to watch the movie.
For those intending to come to the screening in-person, please plan to be there sometime before 6pm so we can get the evening started on-time.
And finally, if the weather is amenable we are planning to set up scopes on the grounds behind the library after the screening. Everyone is welcome to bring a scope of their own or just browse the ones that are set up. We look forward to sharing this time together with the members of fellow group of astronomy enthusiasts based in Massachusetts, and we sincerely hope you'll consider joining us for this special event.
Keep Looking Up!
Mike McCabe
