ABOUT US

SSAS Patch from the early 60's
In November of 1958 a group of Amateur Astronomers, formed the "South Shore Astronomical Society." Today, 50 years later, the passion of those founding members still perseveres. Our joy is Astronomy with the ultimate goals of fun and knowledge.
We meet on the first Wednesday of every month and schedule viewing sessions twice a month on Saturdays around the new moon. Within our club, we have individuals who have interests in the various aspects of astronomy; astrophotography, solar viewing, meteor, asteroid, comet observations, deep sky, binary stars, etc. The only prerequisite for membership is an interest in astronomy.
We are a relatively small club with a usual membership of approximately thirty. The meetings begin at 7:30 p.m.,
usually consisting of a speaker or presentation, followed by a business meeting. We
usually hold our viewing sessions at Centennial Field, starting at sundown.
Come join us at our meetings and observing sessions. The public is always welcome.
