PRESENTATION

 

 “Return of the Falcon” a DVD (available in English or Japanese) about the Japanese spacecraft MUSES-C, or Hayabusa, that visited an asteroid in 2006 and is scheduled to return samples to Earth in 2010

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

1. Astronomy Day Review – both days clouded out

 

2. Public Observing Day of 50th Celebration – small group will meet in July

 

3. Mars Lander – Phoenix – IT WORKED and IS WORKING!

 

4. Charles McCarthy paid bill for Insurance and current treasury balance is $2478.92

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

 1. Viewing Dates – June 7th & June 28th

 

2. Bob Heilman’s 11” Celestron telescope is functioning and available to club members; members (whose names will be presented in the future) fixed Andy Anderson’s 10” Dobsonian with the need for buying new parts – it functions beautifully and is available for members’ use

 

3. Norwell Brownie troop 4459 requests a telescope event for week of June 16 at a “local beach”. Club will suggest that it may be better to come to Centennial Park instead of a beach location. Contact person is Jackie Bruno

 

4. Monday August 11, 2008 is a telescope event at the Plymouth Public Library on South Street starting at 7:30 pm. Bill Luzader will make a presentation inside starting at 7:30 and then go to telescopes (outside or inside) at 8:30 pm

 

5. Tenney Doble will host the club cook out at his home on Aug 9 or 10 – watch for more information

 

6. Stellafane Amateur Astronomer gathering in Springfield VT July 31 – Aug 3. Check http://stellafane.org/ for more information. Some club members are planning to go – check at July meeting for more information.

 

7. Saturday June 6, 2008 at PCIS 9 am – 12:00 pm to work on observatory

 

8. A visitor has a homemade Dobsonian. He needs help learning how to use it. He will join us at Centennial Park some Saturday evening for help.
